About this event

Join a Hybrid Talk with Dr Stefanie Brinkmann & Dr Asma Helali on 'Annotating Islamic Manuscripts. Scribes & Readers' at Chester Beatty. Islamic manuscripts are often heavily annotated, reflecting the vivid interaction between the user and the text.

In this lecture, we will explore the fascinating roles of marginal and interlinear annotations in manuscripts of Qur’ānic readings and prophetic traditions, focusing on their significance for the transmission and teaching of these two subjects.

Dr Stefanie Brinkmann, Senior Research Fellow, Bibliotheca Arabica project, Saxon Academy of Sciences and Humanities, Leipzig, Germany

Dr Asma Helali, Associate Professor, Islamic Studies, University of Lille, France.

Free event in the Reference Library or online via Zoom. Registration required, places limited.
